COMIC BOOK SHOWCASE

Here's a neat product, new to Lee's. It's an easy and elegant way to display your favorite comics. It's called a Comic Book Showcase, and is made by the BCW company. The top part is clear plastic. You snap it off, insert your comic in the well, and snap it back on. There is a built-in handle for hanging. It comes in Current and Silver Age size, and sells for $7.95

(Sorry, my copy of Silver Surfer #4 is not included.)

WHAT IT WAS, WAS THE BLACK OCTOBER SALE

The Black October Sale, held last Saturday at both Lee's Comics locations was a smash! It was a bright, sunny day and everyone was in the mood to dig for bargain comics and stock up on graphic novels. I worked at our Mountain View location until the early afternoon, and took a few pictures.

Here's Dan Jackowitz one of my favorite ex Lee's Comics clerks. Dan stopped by for a visit. He's married, and has a new home. Congratulations Dan! I'm sure that many long time Lee's Comics customers have fond memories of Mr. J!

Here's another look at those bargain book hunters, snapping up those comics with the speed of Mercury!

Here's my friend Mark Arnold manning the booth. He often helps me out at special events.

Now we travel into the store.

MP and Stephan ring up sales.

THE HORROR! THE HORROR!

This video is wrong on so many levels. It was filmed at a recent Wizard convention. (Note the empty isles.)

I don't blame the girls. I feel sorry for them. Whoever it was at Wizard that okayed this has a lot to answer for. This is like a modern day minstrel show, for comics.

VISUAL PUN

Here is a visual pun. The picture recalls a common phrase. Can you guess it?

The first correct guess wins a $10 Lee's Comics gift certificate. Send your entry to Lee@Lcomics.com
Make sure to include your name and address.

OK, we have a winner. It's Sean Kleefeld. Have YOU figured it out yet? If not, take a moment and try again. Okay, if you are still stumped, I'll give you the answer. Just drag your cursor over the line below to reveal.
The Door is a Jar.
Simple, no?
Look for the next visual pun soon!

GENIUS

I enjoy reading the Metro every week. I particularly like Richard von Busack's movie and other pop culture reviews. I read anything he writes, as he's one of the most brilliant and insightful writers on the scene. He's written about comic books many a time, and he really knows his stuff. I was very happy to be included in the September 23th 2009 Best of Silicon Valley edition. This was posted under "Staff Picks, Arts and Culture."

That nice write-up kind of inspires me to get busy and book a few more comic geniuses here.

LOTUS 7

If you like the Prisoner's car, see here what a good driver can do with it:

By the way, that's Wolverine's ride too.

WHY DID YOU RESIGN?

This year, after 23 years of setting up at the San Diego Comic Con, I decided to quit. Some people are curious about the reasons for this.

It occurs to me, that the best TV show of all time was about a guy that quit.
